Kaidan Alenko is the cautious type. The kind that double
checks, and sometimes even triple checks, the kind that tries to sense the mood
in the air, the kind that is prone to over thinking. He leaps after making damn
sure there is something beneath him to catch him as he falls, the “look both
ways twice” kind of guy. Always evaluating, always assessing, and always
thinking. Thinking, thinking, thinking.

Always leave yourself a way out, he’d tell himself.  But that was before. Before Shepard, before
the war, before time was running out.

Sometimes you just have to let go, seize the moment before
it passed you by. Kaidan Alenko was a cautious man, but with Shepard…he wasn’t
holding back anymore. He had leaped without looking, was in a free fall and
loving it. Loving Shepard. His mind screamed “be careful” and his heart
screamed “not this time.” Loving Shepard was scary, loving Shepard was hard,
and loving Shepard was more than he ever dared dream.

Together they were non-stop, all forward momentum, passion
and desire warring with common sense and pent up frustrations. Fear of losing
each other, the fear of being left alone, and gratitude. So damn grateful for
one more day, one more moment together. Greatest challenge of his life, no
doubt about it, but also the greatest reward.
